About Automatic Translation When Publishing

Overview

To make public cards understandable to more people, Topo automatically adds multilingual translations of a card’s title and body when you publish it. Topo does not overwrite text you entered; it adds translations in the languages it supports.

What Automatic Translation Covers

• Automatic translation covers a card’s title and body.
• It adds supported translations alongside the original language.
• Topo currently supports Japanese, English, and Traditional Chinese.
• When you edit a card after publishing it, its translations are updated too.

When Automatic Translation Runs

1. Automatic translation starts during the card publishing process.
2. When translation is complete, it is applied to the same card and published.

If you republish without editing text, Topo skips translation. To update translations, end publishing, edit the card, and publish it again.

Checking Automatically Translated Text

• Open a card detail and select a translated language tab to review it.
• In the Topo app, you can view the language entered by the poster and the translation in the device’s primary language.
• On a public-card web link, all supported translations are available.

How Translation Works

• Automatic translation when publishing is available on iOS 26 or later.
• You can turn High Quality Translation on in your profile. It is off by default.
• When High Quality Translation is on, Topo gives priority to Apple’s standard Translation Session for languages that have been prepared.
• When High Quality Translation is off, Topo uses Apple Intelligence for automatic translation.
• If a prepared target language is unavailable or standard translation cannot be used, Topo falls back to Apple Intelligence translation even when High Quality Translation is on.

If Translation Does Not Appear

• Just after publishing, it can take a short time for translations to appear. Keep the card detail open, wait briefly, and check again.
• If a connection issue prevents the update, the app retries unfinished work when it becomes active again.
• To use High Quality Translation, check its setting and the preparation state of translation data in your profile.
• Automatic translation when publishing does not work on iOS versions earlier than iOS 26.
